Background noise on Mac

White or brown noise for Mac: choose your background.

White and brown noise offer different textures for reading, work or a quiet break. The Oasis Mac app puts both in a compact menu bar panel. Listen to one on its own, or combine it with nature recordings, with a volume control that belongs to Oasis rather than your whole Mac.

Compare the textures at a low level

White noise usually sounds like a brighter, steady hiss. Brown noise feels lower and deeper. Start with one at a low volume, then compare the other without trying to drown out your surroundings. Listening comfort is personal. A texture that suits someone else may feel tiring to you, and there is no need to stick with it.

Adjust the app without changing system volume

The slider at the bottom of the panel controls the whole Oasis mix. Each sound also has a separate level within that mix. This is useful when you move between focused work, music and calls on the same Mac. If the background feels too prominent, lower the overall volume first instead of changing every sound individually.

Listen without downloading an audio file

Oasis generates white and brown noise inside the app. Unlike a recording of rain or forest, these sounds need no audio download. If you combine them with nature recordings for offline listening, download those recordings onto your Mac first. Buying or restoring Oasis access may still require an internet connection.

Add a little nature if you like

Keep brown noise on its own or add a quiet layer of rain. Make small changes, then listen for a while before adjusting again. If automatic volume variation is enabled, keep its limits close for a fairly steady background. You can keep the composition simple. Adding more sources does not necessarily make it a better fit for your task.

Know what is included

White and brown noise, the other generated noises and the rest of the collection are part of full Oasis access. Choose a subscription or the Oasis Infinite lifetime purchase. The Mac version is designed to restore this access with the same Apple Account used on iPhone. Purchase details and the local price appear before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions

Is brown noise better than white noise?

Neither is the best choice for everyone. Brown noise is deeper, while white noise is brighter. Compare them quietly and choose what feels comfortable, without expecting a guaranteed change in focus or sleep.

Do these sounds need a constant internet connection?

Generated noises need no audio file to download. Nature recordings must be explicitly downloaded if you want to keep them for offline listening.

Is there a direct Mac installer?

Oasis is available on the Mac App Store. This website does not offer a separate installer.
