Oasis

Gentle wake-up: plan the whole night with Oasis.

Oasis 2.1 carries you through the night, from bedtime to waking. A reminder invites you to the evening ritual, the soundscape lowers once night has settled, loud sounds are softened, then the night gives way to a forest morning. A backup alarm follows, even if the app was closed. Here is how to prepare each step.

How does a full night work in Oasis?

You choose a bedtime and a wake time. Half an hour before bedtime, a quiet notification suggests the evening ritual. The soundscape then plays, lowers gently once night has settled, and turns into morning fifteen minutes before you wake, with a backup alarm. Each step has its own setting. You can keep only the gentle wake-up, only the lower volume, or use everything.

The evening ritual and bedtime reminder

The bedtime reminder arrives half an hour before the time you chose. It starts the evening ritual, twenty-five minutes with a binaural beats program and a breath that slows down. Drift off then follows on its own. These beats need stereo headphones. They are a listening technique, not a treatment: do not listen while driving, and seek medical advice first if you have epilepsy. If you prefer a simpler routine, a soundscape and the timer are enough.

Why does the sound lower during the night?

Once night has settled, a very present background is no longer useful. After half an hour, Oasis lowers the sound by half over the next thirty minutes. This follows the clock. Oasis does not measure your sleep and uses no sensor. It is also a cautious choice: a study published in the journal Sleep in 2026 linked pink noise played all night to less REM sleep (penntoday.upenn.edu). The Drift off beats fade away after their descent.

What does softening loud moments do?

Some soundscapes contain loud moments, such as a clap of thunder or a bigger wave. The Soften loud moments option reduces these jumps in volume: the sound stays in the scene, but stands out less from the background. It only applies to sounds played by Oasis, not to traffic or neighbours. It helps with storms, beaches and lively forests. During the day, you can turn it off to keep the original dynamics.

What happens during the gentle wake-up?

Fifteen minutes before the time you chose, the night soundscape gives way to morning birdsong in a forest, rising slowly. A singing bowl then rings. The change happens through listening, with no sudden ringtone. No trial compares this kind of wake-up with an ordinary alarm, and Oasis does not claim it is better. It is a gentler way to hear the morning arrive.

What if the app is closed?

A backup alarm follows the gentle wake-up, even if Oasis was closed during the night. It relies on iOS alarms. If alarms are turned off for Oasis in Settings, the gentle wake-up still plays while the app stays open, but the backup alarm cannot ring. Check this permission before your first night, especially if you rely on Oasis to get up.

Prepare a full night, step by step

Choose a downloaded soundscape so you do not depend on the network, set your bedtime and wake time, then turn on the lower volume and softened loud moments. Place the iPhone away from the bed, at a low volume. Start the ritual when the reminder arrives. A session, which combines a soundscape, beats, a duration and a gentle ending, is another way to begin the evening. Oasis offers 12, with 2 free.

With AirPods or a speaker

AirPods can pause playback when they estimate that you have fallen asleep. To keep the soundscape all night, turn off Pause Media When Falling Asleep in your AirPods settings. For a whole night, a speaker is more comfortable. Keep headphones for the evening ritual and the beats, then let the soundscape continue on the iPhone or a speaker.

Frequently asked questions

Does Oasis know when I am asleep?

No. Lowering follows the clock: after half an hour, the volume drops by half over thirty minutes. Oasis uses no sensor and does not measure your sleep.

Does the gentle wake-up replace my alarm?

It includes a backup alarm that rings even if Oasis was closed, as long as alarms are allowed for Oasis in Settings. Before an important appointment, check this setting the evening before.

Do I need a connection during the night?

No, if the soundscape has been downloaded. Binaural beats are synthesized on the iPhone and need no network.

Can I use only the timer?

Yes. The free timer ends playback gently after 15, 30, 45, 60 or 120 minutes, or after 8 hours. It is enough if you do not want a wake-up.

Are these night features on Mac?

No. They arrived with Oasis 2.1 for iPhone. Oasis for Mac is at version 2.0.3.
